What are bilateral dermoids?
Dermoid cysts are the most common type of pathological cysts for women under the age of 30. They are benign in nature It forms due to a totipotential germ cell (a primary oocyte). A totipotential germ cell is a cell that can form all orders of cells that are required to form mature tissues. In most of the cases the dermoids are unilateral in nature, but in 10-20% cases the dermoids are bilateral.
This video demonstrates a special technique of managing dermoid tumor of Ovary. The method aims at minimizing spill of the cyst contents and there by appreciably reducing the surgical time spent in clearing the peritoneum.
